Termidesk 5.1: Landmark Update to Workplace Virtualization Solution

Uveon — Cloud Technologies (part of "Astra Group") has introduced a new version of their software for organizing virtual workplaces and application deliveryTermidesk 5.1. In this update, the company has implemented several important improvements in terms of performance, security, deployment flexibility, and usability of the solution.

The release of Termidesk 5.1 has fully implemented its proprietary protocol terminal access to workstations TERA (Termidesk Remote Access), which was available in test mode in the previous version of the software product. Uveon specialists have developed it as an alternative to the traditional SPICE OpenSource protocol specifically for the Linux ecosystem. In the first version, TERA supports redirection functions for various peripheral devices (sound, microphone, printers, smart cards, USB devices, webcams), keyboard synchronization support, and bandwidth management. The protocol allows you to optimize remote work processes, make them more productive, diverse, intuitive and seamless.

The new features of Termidesk 5.1 provide an additional level of protection for corporate resources. Two-factor authentication using smart cards and tokens makes it possible to store user certificates securely on physical media and use them for secure access to corporate resources. Data forwarding policies include restrictions on the volume and type of clipboard contents, as well as control over the direction of data transfer (from client to server, from server to client, in both directions). Filtering USB devices by Class (PID/VID) allows administrators to manage the redirection of USB devices centrally, eliminating unauthorized use.

The Aggregator component combines several Termidesk farms in a single user interface, eliminating duplication of application shortcuts and providing centralized access to all resources. The new functionality and the "Funds for Autonomous Machines" scenario allow employees to connect to their physical office PCs remotely and interact securely with familiar applications and data from anywhere without any need for additional remote work tools. Improved integration of Termidesk with the ALD Pro authentication domain, including support for group policies and centralized configuration of parameters Astra Linux OS, increases security and manageability of the corporate infrastructure.

The dispatcher function "Intelligent load balancing between terminal servers" makes it possible to distribute users evenly, on the basis of health metrics and capacity of resources consumed, ensuring that a failure of any server will minimally affect the quality and convenience of user experience. Termidesk 5.1 also introduces task scheduling tools to automate routines such as updating and maintaining the Termidesk farm, and centrally collecting, storing, and analyzing logs to monitor the entire infrastructure from a single location and to increase responsiveness.

The Termidesk update focuses on comprehensively improving the user experience of interacting with the solution: support for working with the new generation of Astra Linux 1.8 OS has been implemented, seamless movement of sessions between devices has been provided, and users have access to the connection management center, a tool for conveniently configuring active applications and desktops that allows effective session management from any device.

Today, Termidesk, together with the VMmanager server virtualization platform, provides a comprehensive solution for creating an import-independent virtual desktop infrastructure and terminal services. During the preparation of the release, the Termidesk and VMmanager development teams conducted joint testing, which have confirmed the full compatibility of the Termidesk 5.1 and VMmanager 6 versions. This ensures the stability of the system and its readiness for further updates. The VMmanager+Termidesk bundle provides the ability to deploy a secure VDI infrastructure quickly, clone and modify virtual workstations, organize rental services, create backups, and provide secure remote access.

"The proprietary remote access protocol TERA gives our product another serious competitive advantage. In general, the release of Termidesk 5.1 is a significant step forward in ensuring the safe and convenient operation of our users. Customers are well aware that our Russian solution not only replaces the products of Western vendors, but also provides a qualitatively new level of development of virtualization technologies that work well in companies of any scale and type of activity, meeting the most serious security requirements. We are confident that new features and improvements will help organizations adapt effectively to modern remote work requirements, increase productivity and reduce costs," comments Denis Mukhin, Business Development Director at Uveon - Cloud Technologies.
