Developing IT with Termidesk

With the support of Rosenergoatom, the first fully domestic hardware and software complex for creating virtual workplace infrastructure appeared in Russia

Astra Linux Group and Delta Solutions Group have developed Russia's first fully domestic hardware and software package for deploying virtual workplace infrastructures based on their own products. The project was implemented on behalf of the Rosenergoatom Concern and has already successfully passed the first test tests.

Today, workplace virtualization is a global trend, which essentially means transferring a computer and all its applications to a so–called "virtual" state, thereby allowing you to "untie" a user from a specific hardware and provide remote access from anywhere in the world.

The project, implemented as part of the Russian Government's import substitution program, was developed on behalf of Rosenergoatom Concern (part of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation), which also acted as its reference customer.    

Experts have already conducted comprehensive load tests of the new complex, and the test results have shown that it functions stably and correctly. Currently, the PACK's capacity allows for a fault-tolerant configuration for the simultaneous operation of 1,000 users, and in the future their number will increase 10-fold.

It is noteworthy that the new PACKAGE is fully designed on the basis of domestic products: from the operating system (OS), virtualization tools and a VDI connection broker to servers and storage systems. The software base for it was the Astra Linux OS, the Brest Virtualization Tools PC, and the Termidesk for Astra connection manager. The hardware was provided by domestic Delta Computers servers and storage systems (part of Delta Solutions Group of Companies). 

In the near future, the developers plan to expand the PACKAGE set with the domestic RuBackup data backup and recovery system.

According to Ilya Sivtsev, CEO of Astra Linux Group, all this will allow companies that will use the new PACKAGE to significantly reduce the cost of IT systems, as well as ensure their centralized and convenient administration and secure remote work of employees. "It is important for us that the first implementation of the complex is taking place at Rosenergoatom, as the Concern is currently implementing a project to transfer infrastructure to Russian solutions that is incomparable to any other in terms of scale. This is a confirmation of the high competitiveness of our PAK," he stressed.

In turn, Sergey Migalin, Deputy CEO and Director of Economics and Finance of Rosenergoatom Concern, explained that during the pandemic, the Concern really began to actively use virtual workstations based on Astra Linux, but in 2021 the company faces an even more global challenge. The task is to import all the hardware. 

"Our trilateral cooperation has become an example of effective cooperation between software developers, hardware manufacturers and the customer. We were interested in a working integrated solution based on a stack of domestic technologies, and such a PACKAGE was created under our patronage. Its pilot implementation has already been launched, which is taking place successfully in the Kalininsky industrial data center for users of the Concern's Headquarters," he stressed. 

According to Andrey Chernyshev, CEO of Delta Solutions Group, the created joint solution can become a precedent in the IT market, confirming that today domestic technologies and developments compete highly with their Western counterparts, both in terms of cost and functionality. 

"We are guided by the global experience in equipment development, taking into account the operating practices of Russian customers, as well as current trends in import substitution. All this together gives our customers the opportunity to realize their needs on Russian equipment with characteristics that are not inferior to the products of world leaders in the IT industry," he said, emphasizing that the created PACKAGE is positioned as a "boxed solution" ready for integration into any data center in the Russian Federation and CIS countries.
